Health Promotion

The percentage of older individuals in the population has increased with each decade, and the proportion of persons 75 years and older has grown even faster. As a result, chronic diseases and falls have increased and are now the leading causes of death and disability among older Americans.
The health classes provided through LTCA of Enid AAA and its partners are Evidence Based, meaning they have been thoroughly studied, tested, and are proven to be more effective than standard care. The information provided through the seminars increase older adults’ quality of life—improving health behaviors, health and functional status, and overall well-being.

Tai Chi:
The movements of the Chinese martial art Tai Chi can help seniors reduce the risk of falling, increase balance, and increase flexibility. This six-week class teaches participants ways to improve their overall mind, body, and spirit through a series of slow continuous movements.  It does not matter how strong, flexible, or active you are as Tai Chi is designed for people at all levels of health weeks.

Walk with Ease:

The Walk with Ease program is designed for people interested in walking in groups.  Sessions begin with a short discussion importation to successful walking or arthritis management. The six week class is designed for those who need relief from arthritis pain or just want to be active.

SAIL:

Staying Active and Independent for Life (SAIL) is a fitness program for older adults, which can be done sitting or standing. Performing exercise that improves strength, balance and fitness is critical for staying active and reduce the risk of falls.

A Matter of Balance:

Many older adults experience a fear of falling. Individuals who develop this fear often limit their activities, which can result in physical weakness, making the rick of falling even greater… A Matter of Balance includes eight two hour sessions led by a trained facilitator
